NATIONAL SURVEY DATA

The first survey, referred to as Wave 1, was fielded March 10 - March 31, 2020. In contrast to the subsequent Waves 2 - 29, all respondents were invited on March 10. The distribution of responses over the survey period is therefore not random and concentrated in the first part of the survey period (see the Survey Methods tab on the Covid-19 Pulse site).

The tracking survey began with Wave 2, which fielded April 1 - April 27, 2020. From April 1, 2020 through February 16, 2021 (Waves 2 – 29) each new survey wave was fielded every two weeks. Each day 1/14th of the respondents were invited to take the survey. Since respondents had two weeks to complete the survey, the total field period for each wave was four weeks, so that responses from the participants assigned to do the survey during the last two weeks of a field period of one wave could overlap in time with responses from participants assigned to do the survey in the first two weeks of the subsequent wave.

For waves that started February 17, 2021 through July 6, 2021 (Waves 25 - 29), a new tracking survey wave was fielded every four weeks. Each day 1/28th of the respondents were invited to take the survey. Since respondents still had exactly two weeks to answer the survey, the total field period was six weeks. The tracking survey ended on July 20, 2021.

Subsequent waves of the Covid survey were fielded as stand-alone surveys, similar to Wave 1, with all invitations issued at the same time. Wave 30 was fielded from September 23 to October 31, 2021., Wave 31 was fielded from February 1 to March 30, 2021, Wave 32 from July 20 to September 9, 2022, Wave 33 from November 18, 2022 to January 15, 2023, and Wave 34 from May 12 to July 9, 2023.

Datasets, questionnaires and codebooks for each wave are listed under the Documentation tab.
