Recruitment batches: 1-25.

Sampling method: simple random sample, or adaptive sampling targeting zip codes, or adaptive sampling targeting households.

Weights: base weights account for unequal probabilities of sampling zip codes produced by the adaptive sampling algorithm and the probability of a household being sampled, conditional on its zip code being sampled. The raking factors used for post-stratification are:
  • Gender (male/female)
  • Race/Ethnicity (white/black/other/hispanic)
  • Age (18-39/40-49/50-59/60+)
  • Education (high school or less/some college/ bachelor or more)
  • Census Region (augmented) (Northeast/Midwest/South/West, excluding California/California, excluding Los Angeles County/Los Angeles County)
Population benchmarks: population-level distributions of raking factors are taken from the 6 most recent available Basic Monthly Current Population Survey (CPS) at the time a UAS survey is completed.

Respondents with a weight of zero: non-Native Americans respondents in recruitment batches 2 and 3 and respondents in recruitment batch 4 (simple random sample of addresses listed on birth certificates issued in Los Angeles County in the years 2009-2012 in a limited set of zip codes).

Sampling method: simple random sample or adaptive sampling targeting zip codes.

Weights: base weights account for unequal probabilities of sampling zip codes produced by the adaptive sampling algorithm and the probability of a household being sampled, conditional on its zip code being sampled. The raking factors used for post-stratification are:
  • Race/Ethnicity (white/black/other/hispanic)
  • Gender (male/female) × Age (18-39/40-49/50-59/60+)
  • Gender (male/female) × Education (high school or less/some college/assoc. college degree/bachelor/master, professional, doctorate degree)
  • Household Size (1 member/2 or 3 members/4 or more members) × Household Income (<$35,000/$35,000-$74,999/$75,000+)
  • Census Region (Northeast/Midwest/South/West)
  • Urbanicity (Rural/Mixed/Urban)
Population benchmarks: population-level distributions of raking factors are taken from the available Current Population Survey (CPS) Annual Social and Economic Supplement (ASEC) administered in March of each year.

Respondents with a missing weight: UAS respondents in recruitment batch 4 (simple random sample of addresses listed on birth certificates issued in Los Angeles County in the years 2009-2012 in a limited set of zip codes).
