Congratulations! You’ve completed the American Life in Realtime (AliR) study! We hope you have enjoyed it.

As a valued participant, we would like to offer you the opportunity to continue earning up to $15 per month ($180/year) for wearing your Fitbit and answering brief surveys.

We are changing a few things about the study to make it easier:
  • You can earn $5/month if you wear your Fitbit for at least 20 days each month.
  • We will ask you to answer a few regular surveys (about once per month), and you will earn an additional $5 for each survey you complete
  • ALiR surveys and communications will now come through your UAS study pages.
  • You will also be able to track your Fitbit data through the UAS study pages.
  • Since the ALiR app will no longer work you can delete it.
  • You may continue to participate as long as the study continues and you are enrolled in the UAS.
We would also like to offer a new ALiR opportunity.
  • To understand how your environment influences your day-to-day activity and health, we would like permission to collect GPS information from your phone.
  • If you agree, you will earn an additional $5 per month. As always, this is completely voluntary. You do not have to agree to GPS data collection to participate in ALiR. This is simply an additional option.
  • This will not start right away; we will alert you when we begin collecting this data.
All of your rights as a volunteer in this study remain. As a reminder, here is a link to the original consent you reviewed when you agreed to participate in the AliR Study: original consent

If you wish to continue participating in ALiR and/or the GPS opportunity, please let us know below.

Thank you so much, and we hope you have enjoyed participating in ALiR.

Do you wish to continue to participate in ALiR?

We are inviting you to participate in a study that uses data from smartwatches, specifically [Fitbit/Apple Watch], to understand day-to-day health of Americans. The study is called American Life in Realtime (ALiR) and is supported by the National Institutes of Health.

If you are interested in participating, we will ask you to:
  • Wear your [Fitbit/Apple Watch] on your wrist all the time (including while you are sleeping)
  • Answer a few regular surveys (about once per month)
  • Participate for at least a year. After one year, you may continue to participate as long as the study continues and you are enrolled in UAS.
If you complete all study activities, which will take no more than 5-10 minutes per month, you may earn between [Fitbit/Apple Watch]2 and be eligible for an additional bonus of $50. Thus, you can earn between [Fitbit/Apple Watch]3.

You will find all study details on the following screens and at the end, you will have a chance to let us know if you are interested in participating. Feel free to write or call the helpdesk if you have any questions, uashelp@usc.edu and 855-872-8673.
