UAS Panel Recruitment And Participation Data

The UnderStanding America Study collects a variety of data about activities undertaken to recruit new panel members as well as to maintain membership of current panel members. It also keeps track of the behavior of respondents in terms of the surveys they participate in.

In this context the following data files are updated nightly and are available for download (registration required):

• The UAS Recruitment And Attrition data set provides information on the efforts made during recruitment and membership of UAS panel members. Use it for example to study the effects of conducted experiments on recruitment rates. The data set is described in detail in the UAS Recruitment And Attrition Data guide. (Note: prior to April 24, 2024 the UAS Recruitment And Attrition data set contained slightly different variables for the status of UAS members. A description of the earlier data set can be found here).
• The UAS First My Household data set contains answers to the first ever My Household survey of each UAS panel member (including inactive and stopped members). Use it for example to look at the differences (if any) between currently active UAS members and all UAS members including inactive and stopped members. Download the data set here.
• The UAS My Household Over Time data set contains answers to every My Household survey ever taken by each UAS panel member. Use it to for example track changes in demographics as captured in the My Household survey over time by respondent. Download the data set here.
• The UAS Survey Order data set contains the order in which every UAS respondent answered UAS surveys. It contains a series of variables denoted survey1 to survey-nth identifying the survey identifier. Use it for example to analyze survey behavior depending on which surveys a respondent was invited to and in what order. Download the data set here.
• The UAS Survey Activity data set contains the surveys to which every UAS respondent responded. For each UAS survey it indicates whether a respondent was invited, whether s/he completed the survey, and on what date/time completion occurred. It also contains several summary variables, such as the total number of completed surveys, the last survey invited to (by UAS identifier), the last date invited and the number of days ago, and the last completed survey (by UAS identifier) on what date and how many days ago. Use it for example to look into respondent behavior in terms of overall survey completion. Download the data set here.
• The UAS Survey Timings data set contains the overall time (in seconds) spent by every UAS respondent for each UAS survey that they answered. It also contains the number of question screens viewed in a survey by a respondent and the average time spent on each screen. Use it to for example to analyze fast versus slow respondents (e.g. in conjunction with demographic or other survey data). Download the data set here.
